Description
“Had the people of learning guarded knowledge, it would have guarded them” opens a line by al-Qadi al-Jurjani (d. 1002), the judge and critic, on the dignity of learning; it ends: “and had they honoured it in their souls, it would have been honoured.” For a library, a professor’s office, or a graduate.
It is written in Thuluth, the grand script of mosque inscriptions, in dark ink over an ink and gold-leaf painting on hand-made paper of a stone arch, morning light and old books on a wooden chest. Printed exactly as shown.
